For generations of families in La Grange and surrounding communities, Lyons Township High School has been more than just a place where students attend classes. The large suburban high school serves thousands of students each year and plays a central role in preparing them for college, careers, and civic life.
School administrators say their mission extends well beyond traditional academics. While the school offers a wide range of Advanced Placement courses and college-preparatory classes, leaders say equal emphasis is placed on career pathways, technical education, and extracurricular programs that help students develop practical skills.
“Our goal is to make sure every student leaves here with a direction and a sense of confidence,” said one school administrator. “That might mean college for some students, technical training for others, or entering the workforce with strong foundational skills.”
Programs in fields such as engineering, business, and health sciences have grown in recent years as educators respond to changing workforce demands. Partnerships with local businesses and colleges also provide opportunities for internships, mentorships, and real-world learning experiences.
Parents say the school’s size allows it to offer a wide range of opportunities while still maintaining a strong community culture.
“It’s a big school, but the teachers and coaches really get to know the kids,” said La Grange parent Karen Williams. “There’s something for every student here if they’re willing to get involved.”
With enrollment remaining strong, school officials say they are continuing to expand programs that prepare students for a rapidly changing economy while maintaining the traditions that have long defined the school.
