Residents from La Grange, La Grange Park, and Western Springs gathered along Willow Springs Road on Saturday, March 28, to take part in the third No Kings protest — a day of civic action with events throughout the Chicagoland area and the nation. The rally stretched between 50th Street and 53rd Place in Western Springs and ran from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Among those who showed up was a group from the League of Women Voters of the La Grange Area, led by Diane Scott. The group's participation was later noted in a Chicago Tribune article by reporter Hank Beckman, published March 30, 2026. The LWV La Grange Area's own website said the organization was "well represented" at the rally.

Scott explained why she felt it was important to be there. "We need to defend democracy," she told the Chicago Tribune. "The League of Women Voters has been working for a hundred years to do just that with voter registration and voter education and getting people involved in becoming good citizens. That's why I'm here."

Other area residents also made their voices heard along Willow Springs Road.

Mike Waters, 67, of La Grange, a member of Indivisible West Suburban Chicago — the group that organized the event — said the turnout gave him hope. "We feel good about what's happening here, about the showing we had," he told the Desplaines Valley News. Waters added that he believes the protests carry a clear message to national leaders: "We want to send a message that we won't put up with this."

James Connelly, 67, of La Grange — an attorney, Army veteran, and member of American Legion Post 488 in Riverside who was honorably discharged as a lieutenant colonel — also attended. Connelly reflected on the difficulty of cutting through the noise. "It's so difficult to get the headlines on the truth," the Desplaines Valley News reported. "What is the purpose? What is the goal? It's almost a 'Wag the Dog' scenario."

Third Local Rally Joins More Than 3,000 Nationwide

The March 28 rally was the third No Kings protest. Earlier editions were held in June and October 2025, and local residents have taken part in each one. Organizers said the Western Springs event was one of more than 3,000 protests held nationwide that day. Rally organizers estimated attendance at approximately 1,400.
