La Grange Library Adds Disability Pride Month Reading Challenge Starting July 1

The La Grange Public Library is launching a Disability Pride Month Reading Challenge this summer, giving families a new way to explore books by and about disabled people alongside the library's main summer reading program.

The challenge runs July 1 through Aug. 3 and is open to all ages. Participants pick one reading prompt. Options include a book by a disabled author, a graphic novel with a disabled main character, or a nonfiction title about disability activism. From there, readers work through an eight-item activity checklist. Complete four activities to earn a prize and a drawing ticket. Finish all eight for an extra ticket.

Activities range from reading milestones (30, 60, 90, or 120 minutes) to visiting the library in person or watching a documentary about a disabled person's life.

Families who track progress through the free Beanstack app can a bonus drawing entry. Curated book recommendations are available via QR code on the challenge card, available at https://lagrangelibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Beanstack-Cards-2026-1.pdf.

The challenge is separate from the library's "Plant a Seed, Read" summer program, which runs June 1 through Aug. 1 and tracks reading minutes.
