Athlete Spotlight: Braden Sullivan Helps Lead Lions During Strong February Run

Senior guard Braden Sullivan has been one of the steady leaders for the boys basketball team at Lyons Township High School, helping guide the Lions through a strong stretch of games during the final weeks of the regular season.

Lyons Township has put together several impressive wins over the past month, including victories over York, Proviso West and Hinsdale South during a productive late-January and early-February stretch. In one of those games, the Lions defeated York 56–49, continuing a run that helped keep the team competitive in the West Suburban Conference.

Sullivan, a senior guard on the varsity roster, has served as a key ball-handler and perimeter scorer for the Lions this season. Coaches say his ability to control the tempo of the offense has been particularly valuable in close games where execution becomes critical.

“Braden is someone who understands the rhythm of the game,” said a Lyons Township assistant coach after a recent practice. “He’s the kind of player who keeps everyone organized and makes smart decisions with the ball.”

Teammates say Sullivan’s experience has helped stabilize the lineup during tight matchups. In a late-January win over Proviso West, Lyons pulled away for an 82–43 victory, showcasing the team’s ability to move the ball and create scoring opportunities across the roster.

For Sullivan, the highlight of the season has been competing in front of the home crowd at the Lyons Township fieldhouse.

“There’s nothing like playing here on a Friday night,” he said. “The student section is loud, and you want to give them a game they’ll remember.”

As the postseason approaches, Sullivan says the team’s focus remains on finishing the season strong and continuing to build chemistry.
