Athlete Spotlight: Owen Carroll Provides Versatility for Lyons Township Basketball

While the Lyons Township basketball team features several experienced seniors, forward Owen Carroll has emerged as one of the program’s most versatile players during the final month of the season.

Carroll, a senior guard-forward listed on the varsity roster, has been a consistent contributor on both ends of the floor. Standing more than six feet tall, he gives the Lions a player capable of defending multiple positions while also stretching the floor offensively.

During a recent stretch of games in late January, Lyons Township picked up wins over Proviso East and Hinsdale South while continuing to compete against some of the top teams in the conference. The Lions defeated Proviso East 68–39, one of several victories that helped build momentum heading toward the postseason.

Coaches say Carroll’s ability to rebound and move the ball quickly in transition has been particularly valuable during those games.

“Owen does a little bit of everything,” said one coach. “He rebounds, defends, and he can step outside and hit shots when we need them.”

Carroll said the team’s recent success has been driven by improved chemistry among the players.

“We’ve been working a lot on communication and trusting each other,” he said. “When everyone is moving the ball and playing defense together, we’re a tough team to beat.”

As the season moves into the final weeks, Carroll said the Lions remain focused on improving each game and making a deep postseason run.
