The League of Women Voters of the La Grange Area hosts its Spring Luncheon on Saturday, May 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Dole Hall, Plymouth Place, 315 N. La Grange Road, La Grange Park.
Associate Judge Daniel Jasica of the Lake County Chancery Court will speak on how judges are selected, judicial independence and ethics, and the differences between state and federal courts. Jasica, a Northwestern Law graduate and former chief deputy state's attorney in Lake County, has served on the 19th Judicial Circuit bench since 2014.
Cost is $35, including a buffet lunch. Plymouth Place residents are also welcome. To register, contact Andrea Martonffy at amartonffy@aol.com.
The league's Annual Meeting on June 16 will include a member vote on the organization's civic priorities for the next one to two years. Co-Presidents Curt Hansman and Barbara Lamb said in a May 5 newsletter that after a busy run-up to the recent primaries, the Board has been "catching its breath and looking ahead to the general election in November."
