Student artwork now fills the walls at 122 Calendar Ave. in downtown La Grange, and this Saturday's free reception gives families a reason to stroll the district.
The La Grange Art League's 2026 Annual Student Show runs through Thursday, May 28, featuring work created by students who took classes at the gallery between May 2025 and April 2026. Each student submitted one piece per instructor, spanning painting, drawing, mixed media, and other disciplines. Unlike most Art League exhibitions, student pieces are not required to be for sale.
The public reception and awards presentation is Saturday, May 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. Admission is free. A juror will announce Best of Show, First Place, Second Place, Third Place, and Honorable Mentions during the event.
The gallery sits about a three-minute walk from the La Grange Road Metra stop on the BNSF line, making it accessible without a car. The show is the only judged exhibition on the league's 2025–2026 calendar open specifically to student participants.
Founded in 1933, the Art League has operated from its Calendar Avenue location since 1984. The nonprofit, which receives partial funding from the Illinois Arts Council, held its first classes in 1987 with 35 adults and 17 children.
The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact: 708-352-3101.
