The Lyons Township High School District 204 board approved $321,000 in construction change orders on Tuesday, adding to the cost of a multimillion-dollar campus renovation even as several members voiced frustration over the unexpected expenses. One board member dissented, Patch reported.
The overruns are tied to the district's "Groundwork for a Brighter Future" capital plan — a roughly $40 million, multi-year renovation of both LTHS campuses that launched in 2024. Phase I alone directed about $33 million toward South Campus at 4900 S. Willow Springs Road in Western Springs, funding a new cafeteria and commons area, expanded music rooms, and renovated bathrooms. DLA Architects Ltd. and Happ Builders handled the South Campus work.
At less than 1 percent of the overall $40 million plan, the $321,000 addition is modest in scale — but the dissenting vote signals at least some board members are uneasy with the project's cost trajectory as it enters its final year.
