This Weekend in La Grange: A 5K, a Card Show, and Zero Excuses

This Weekend in La Grange: A 5K, a Card Show, and Zero Excuses

Six District 102 schools stand to benefit Sunday when runners of all ages lace up for the 11th annual Run for 102 Race to the Finish in La Grange Park — there's no excuse not to get out and enjoy the weekend!

Run for 102 | Sunday, April 19 — La Grange Park

The 1-mile fun run kicks off at 8:00 a.m., followed by the 5K at 8:30 a.m. Both races start and finish at Ogden Avenue School and wind through the streets of La Grange Park. A post-race party with music follows.

The race benefits the PTO and parent-teacher councils for all six schools in La Grange School District 102: Barnsdale Road, Congress Park Elementary, Cossitt Avenue Elementary, Forest Road Elementary, Ogden Avenue Elementary, and Park Junior High. The event is open to anyone — you don't have to be a District 102 family to participate. Walkers are welcome at both distances.

Awards in the 1-mile fun run are limited to K–8th graders, but parents are encouraged to run alongside their kids.

Online registration is closed, but in-person sign-up is available Friday, April 17 at Gemini Gymnastics from noon to 6:00 p.m., or on race morning at Ogden Avenue School. Full details are at raceroster.com.

Midwest Collectors Fest | Sunday, April 19 — Countryside

Card collectors and sports memorabilia fans have a regional draw just minutes from La Grange this Sunday. The Midwest Collectors Fest, organized by Midwest Sports Buffet, fills Countryside Banquets at 6200 S. Joliet Road with 130 vendor tables from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The show floor spans sports cards, graded slabs, autographs, Pokémon, memorabilia, and hobby supplies — described by organizers as approachable for casual collectors and families, not just seasoned hobbyists.

The headliner draw this month: former Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillén and outfielder Ross Gload, both members of the 2005 World Series championship team, are scheduled as autograph guests. For southwest suburban Sox fans, it's a rare chance to get a signature from a title-winning squad.
