Jack Slightom did it again.
The LTHS senior struck out 13 batters in five no-hit innings Monday as the Lions demolished Proviso West 13-0 in West Suburban Silver play. It's Slightom's second no-hitter of the season, following his 10-0 gem against York on April 28.
The Lions' bats matched Slightom's dominance, erupting for seven runs in the second inning. Brady Koren went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Tommy Georgelos, an Eastern Illinois commit, was 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs. Aidan Webster added a 2-for-3 night with a double and an RBI.
Two no-hitters in eight days. Slightom, ranked No. 1 among Illinois pitchers and No. 113 nationally by Prep Baseball Report, is a University of Cincinnati recruit expected to hear his name called in the MLB Draft this July. The Riverside-Brookfield Landmark reported that MLB scouts have been attending LTHS games in large numbers to watch him pitch. After his first no-hitter against York, Slightom told the Landmark he didn't realize what was happening until it was over: "It was pretty much fastball. I was just able to attack, just ride the whole game."
Head coach Kevin Diete's squad now sits at 18-5 overall and 9-2 in conference as the IHSA playoffs approach.
Also: Nazareth's Kam Alikhan went 2-for-3 with an RBI in a loss to Benet. The Roadrunners dropped to 18-7 overall, 6-5 in the ESCC.
The Lions face Proviso West tomorrow at 4:30.
